It may be remarked that Portland is on the verge of a new era in her cultural development, the start of a backlash against the rapidly-degenerating false front of the trumped-up mainstream arts scene that has proven most useful in transforming the neighborhood drags of our city into half-slick shopping districts.
Just as they did when the Arts Business took root in San Francisco, the deepest freak creators of Portland are consolidating their energies into the establishment of vast centers of community and creation in the reclaimed shells of old industrial buildings. What once were warehouses and factories are even now being transformed by many hands and hearts into the palaces of our post-industrial dreams.
One of these new warehouses; helmed by veterans of The Nightmare Collective, The Semi-Permanent Autonomous Zone, 2Gyrlz Performative Arts, City Repair Project, and countless crews of all shapes and sizes; has been christened "IzVillage". And those of us who share their vision will gather many times in the coming months to help raise funds and awareness for this chapter in the Great Work.
Join us Saturday 3/17 at The Red and Black Cafe. Post-asiatic scrap ensemble Nequaquam Vacuum, acoustic gypsy punks Dead Pan Pariah, space-age lounge cats Even in Paradise, and more.
